    A Brief History Of Gold

Thousands of years ago, we first discovered gold as a shiny yellow nugget. It soon became part of our culture with its natural beauty and lustre. Ancient Egyptians were fascinated by gold. Egyptians considered gold as “the skin of gods” and was often used to craft objects of spiritual significance. It was used on clothing quite a lot as they saw it as precious and rich.

We associate gold with being wealthy. The colour gold is seen as the colour of success, achievement and triumph. The colour is associated with masculine energy and the power of the sun, whereas silver is more feminine and ties in with the moon.

Clothing too used gold, embellished within textiles to create that powerful touch. Harper’s Bazaar says about gold used in fashion today, “There is no shortage of glimmer and glitz come the holidays, but the spring collections showed that gold in both big and small doses transcends season and the time of day. Better yet, when paired with austere hues like army green or khaki, the shade becomes even more brilliant.”

Gold is seen as a classic that is being revisited and is integral within home interiors and objects. Gold is popular for driving the festive period as it brings boldness and makes a statement. Moreover, it’s perfect for glitz and glam when decorating your interiors. Gold is timeless.

Solo has launched their new “Artisan” gold collection for home interiors from wave dishes to bowls, to heart dishes to napkin rings. All finished with an iridescent hand-made gold-crackle touch.
